Compliance-aware settlement

Pay researchers anywhere, without building a tax department

Tiered verification, several payout rails, withholding calculated per jurisdiction and tax forms generated, e-signed and stored — with the calculation shown before money moves.

The platform handles withholding calculation, form generation and reporting workflows. It does not replace your own tax or legal counsel.

Capabilities

What settlement involves

The parts of paying international researchers that normally stall in finance rather than in security.

Tiered KYC

Email and phone, then government ID and proof of residence, then payout method — progressive rather than all at once.

Payout channels

Digital wallets, local bank transfer, international wire and cryptocurrency, offered where they are available.

Thresholds and cycles

A global minimum plus per-channel minimums, with on-demand or scheduled runs.

Currency conversion

Real-time rates at execution time, with conversion and fees shown as separate lines.

Transparent calculation

Gross, fees, withholding and net shown to the researcher before payment.

Withholding by jurisdiction

Applicable treaty benefits applied where they exist; the rate and its basis recorded on the payout.

Digital tax forms

W-9, W-8BEN and W-8BEN-E generated, e-signed and stored against the researcher profile.

Annual reporting

Data assembled for 1099-NEC, T4A, Payment Annual Report and equivalents, driven by the transaction record.

AML-aware design

Identity verification before payouts, source and destination checks, step-up verification and a retained decision trail.

Payout rails

Channel availability depends on the researcher’s country and the program tier. An unavailable channel is not offered rather than offered and then failing.

  • Digital wallets: PayPal, Payoneer and Skrill.
  • Local bank transfer: ACH in the United States, SEPA in the European Union.
  • International wire: SWIFT with BIC/IBAN.
  • Cryptocurrency: USDT on TRC-20 and ERC-20, USDC and Bitcoin.
  • Payout preferences are maintained by the researcher, not emailed to program staff.
  • Failures return the reward to the queue with the reason recorded, so a channel problem does not lose the payment.

Settlement mechanics

The questions researchers and finance both ask.

Verification
Three progressive tiers; payouts require the tiers the method and jurisdiction demand.
Minimums
A global minimum plus per-channel minimums, so fixed channel cost does not exceed the reward.
Timing
On-demand runs or scheduled cycles that batch approved rewards together.
Withholding
Computed per payout, with the rate, treaty basis and amount recorded.
Reporting
Annual output generated from transactions rather than a separate reconciliation exercise.
Automation
Automated payout execution is Professional-tier; manual runs work on all tiers.

Common questions

Payout questions we hear most

How does paying international researchers work?
Tiered verification establishes identity and tax residency, then payouts settle through the researcher’s chosen channel. Withholding is calculated per jurisdiction, forms are generated and e-signed in-platform, and annual reporting obligations are tracked.
Do we have to collect tax forms ourselves?
No. The platform collects the applicable form (W-9, W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E) before a payout is released where a form is required, validates responses for obvious inconsistencies and stores the signed artefact.
What happens when a payout fails?
The failure and its reason are recorded, the reward returns to the queue, and the researcher can correct the payout method. Repeated failures on a channel surface to the finance team for review.
Is this tax advice?
No. The platform performs calculations, generates forms and produces reporting data. Your organisation remains responsible for its own tax and compliance position, with its own advisers.
